about

This is a mantra for White Tara, who is a Goddess and Bodhisattva of compassion in Tibetan Buddhism. This is a mantra that asks for merit, wisdom and long life. Although the word 'mama' which means mine, indicates that one is asking for these qualities for themselves, it is said that this mantra was often used to pray for another person when they were ill. (You can fill in 'mama' with that person's name.) Punya means merit, gnana wisdom and ayuh is long life and health. Ayuh is the root word for Ayurveda, the traditional health system from India. It is said that 'kuru' can be translated as 'make it so' and svaha "may blessings be upon."

Special thanks to Kevin Dickey for offering his home and recording equipment for us on Orcas so that Fabrice and I were able to collaborate together on this song. And deepest gratitude to Fabrice Van Putten for sharing countless songs with me over the years, and for being one of my closest brothers and favorite humans to sing with. Thank you baba for all you bring to my life, your family and our community!

May I be compassionate and healthy on all levels, may I walk in beauty and integrity.... may reality and life as it is teach me wisdom... may blessings be upon this life
