I first heard this song on Deva Premal's abum Love is Space. The water, piano, and her ethereal voice create an amazing sound scape... one we did not want to try to replicate as it so beautifully stands on its own. This version of Ide Were Were is a co-creation that came to Mas and I late one night in the San Juan Islands; it literally descended upon us as a gift from this place and her spirits.

It is said to be an Orisha song, of the Yoruba People (originally from areas that are now parts of Nigeria and West Africa). This song is a song to the goddess, Ochun (Oshun), the goddess of love, intimacy, beauty and wealth. It is said that this song speaks of a necklace, which is the iniitation into love. This translation is the only one I have been able to track down and seems a little vague. If anyone has more information on its origin or exact meaning, please contact me. It is a song that is very dear to me, and I would love to learn more about it.
